# One point per run

> Why Ranqo's trend charts plot one point for each tracking run, leave unmeasured days blank, and only show a change when there are two runs.

Everything Ranqo measures comes from a tracking run, and nothing is measured between runs. So every trend chart follows one rule: it draws one point for each run that happened, joins consecutive runs with a line, and draws nothing else.

## What a point is

- **A point is one completed run:** every tracked prompt asked once on each engine it is set to. See [How Ranqo measures](https://ranqo.ai/docs/methodology).
- **It sits on the day the run finished**, by the calendar in your browser's time zone. See [Time zones](https://ranqo.ai/docs/methodology/time-zones).
- **Two runs on one day become one point.** If two runs finish on the same day, the chart plots the later run's score, because two values at one position would draw a vertical line. With a filter applied, the point instead counts both runs' answers together.
- **The line between two points is the only claim the chart makes** about the days in between.

The horizontal axis is drawn to scale in time. Runs are weekly, one every 7 days per brand, so points sit about a week apart, and a two-week gap after a missed run looks twice as wide as a normal one.

## Days without a run stay blank

A day with no run has no measurement, so the chart does not invent one. It never fills those days with zero, which would say you were measured and not named, and it never repeats the last run's value across them, which would say the number held steady. A gap between two points says nothing about those days, because nothing is known about them.

On the Sources page the same rule holds for citation counts: a run that cited nothing from a domain plots as 0, because the run happened and found nothing, while a day with no run is left out.

## The axis covers the range you picked

A chart always spans the whole date range you chose, not just the days that have data. One run in **Last 30 days** shows as a single point inside the month, rather than a line stretched across the full width that would suggest a month of data.

When a run happened just before your range, the chart draws the line from it to the first run inside the range, entering from the left edge. Without it, the line would appear to start from nothing. That earlier run is only drawn: it is not counted in any figure on the page.

## When dots appear

- **One point on the chart:** it is drawn as a dot. With no line to sit on, the dot is the whole message. This happens when the range holds one run and no earlier run exists; when an earlier run does exist, the line enters from the left edge to that one run instead.
- **Two or more points:** the line carries the shape and no dots are drawn. Hover the chart and the run under your pointer is marked, with its values.
- **One value on one line:** in a chart with several lines, such as your brand against competitors, a line that has only one value in the range keeps its dot. Without it, a competitor first named in the latest run would not show at all.

## Changes need two measurements

A change needs two measurements to compare. Here is what each change figure compares:

- **Source Trends** on the [Sources](https://ranqo.ai/docs/guides/sources) page shows your citation count in the latest run, labelled with that run's date, and the change from the run before it. With one run in the range there is nothing to compare with, so it shows neither an arrow nor "No change".
- **The Visibility card in the [Action Center](https://ranqo.ai/docs/guides/action-center)** compares the latest run with the previous run, in points.
- **The cards on the [Visibility](https://ranqo.ai/docs/guides/visibility) page** compare everything in the range you picked with the range of the same length before it. When the range before holds no run, Position, Sentiment and Share of Voice show no change, and Visibility reads **Stable** although nothing was compared. See [Visibility](https://ranqo.ai/docs/methodology/visibility).
- **The chip under the visibility figure on Home** compares the latest run with the most recent run that finished more than seven days ago, in points. It is hidden while the latest run is itself more than a week old, for example while a brand is paused or when the next weekly run is late. When no run is that old yet, it compares the latest run with the brand's first. See [Tour the dashboard](https://ranqo.ai/docs/guides/dashboard-tour#the-scoreboard).

None of them uses today as a measurement. On a weekly cadence, today is usually a day with no run, and a day without a run is not a zero.

## Paused brands

When tracking is paused for a brand, the Visibility trend chart shades the stretch from the last run to the end of the axis, labelled **No runs since** and the last run's date when there is room for the label. A line that stops is then not mistaken for a drop. See [Brand settings](https://ranqo.ai/docs/guides/brand-settings).
